Smart Films

Composition: Often made using liquid crystal (PDLC) or electrochromic materials embedded in a polymer matrix.
Reflectivity: It is non-reflective in appearance. It does not have a mirror-like finish unless specially designed.
Technology Types:

PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) – turns opaque/clear with power.
Electrochromic – gradually changes tint with voltage (used in high-end glass like in Boeing 787 or smart windows).

Dichroic Film

Material: Made using multi-layer optical coatings (non-metallic or partially metallic).
Colors: Shifts through colors like blue, pink, gold, green, purple, etc.
Reflectivity: Often partially reflective — but the reflectivity is visual and decorative, not solar/heat control like metallized films.
Metallization:

Some dichroic films may contain ultra-thin metallic layers, but not in the same way as metallized window films used for solar control.
They are primarily non-metallized or low-metal, meant for light diffraction rather than heat rejection.
